Situated on a piece of disused industrial wasteland, in the heart of the historic town of Hertford, Coleridge Park is a contemporary residential development comprising of 218 new homes with a gymnasium and terraced communal gardens. The development itself incorporates podium decks above the gymnasium, car parks and habitable space, and therefore necessitated a failsafe waterproofing system.

Stirling Lloyd’s Integritank® acrylic system, a fast curing, high performance waterproofing membrane, was selected by constructors for its versatility, durability and many other unique properties. The complex and highly detailed nature of the development, which included numerous service and drainage penetrations, posed problems for the contractors. However Integritank®’s simple, spray applied technique, which is completely seamless and bonds fully to the substrate, provided the perfect solution.

Kevin Cain of Barratt’s commented, "Many other systems were considered. However, it was found that they were over complicated to install and an adequate seal could not be guaranteed around these penetrations".

Paul Lewis, Commercial Director at Barratt’s was also involved in the decision to select Integritank® . He highlighted another of the system’s major features. "The fact that 500m² of Integritank® can be sprayed per day, it can accept foot and vehicular traffic in one hour without the need for additional protection, and the product is unaffected by moisture or low temperature applications has been exceptionally beneficial in maintaining our building programme."

Indeed, Integritank®’s reactive chemical cure is unaffected by moisture, humidity and low temperatures, (and can even be applied in temperatures as low as –4°C), allowing a far greater weather window of application than rival systems, making it ideal for installations of this nature.

Additionally the system’s fast application rate, which can enable users to cover up to a maximum of 2000m² per day, can prevent costly, time-consuming delays and ensure that work is carried out to tight deadlines.

Furthermore, the system is extremely hardwearing and can withstand considerable pressure caused by heavy weights placed on the membrane, vital in areas such as this where it is highly likely that several successive layers of material may be required.

In the event of any repairs, again Integritank® far out performs alternative systems such as polyurethane’s and can be simply over coated with additional layers. The unique surface chemistry of the MMA system allows successive layers to chemically bond, thus ensuring the waterproofing integrity of the structure.

Barratt’s have been so impressed with the performance, adaptability and superior mechanical properties of the system that they have opted to use it on many other high quality developments across the country.
