Stirling Lloyd's Safetrack® HW skid resistant surfacing system and Integritank® structural waterproofing membrane have enabled the successful completion of one of Manchester's most prestigious new developments.

The Linx Building, which is located on Angel Street, north of the city centre, is a contemporary residential development consisting of 98 apartments and penthouses, an internal landscaped courtyard and an underground parking facility.

Main Contractors Ovenden Project Services approached Stirling Lloyd in their search for a structural waterproofing system suitable for application to the podium deck, which would form the roof of both the basement and an underground car park and would subsequently be landscaped as a shared courtyard.

They required a system which would be 100% effective, preventing water ingress into the area beneath and durable enough to withstand the hard landscaping above.

Stirling Lloyd's Integritank® BBA certificated, two component, liquid spray-applied system, based on methyl methacrylate (MMA) resins, which cure rapidly to form a tough, 100% effective seamless waterproof membrane, more than met this criteria.

Having witnessed the system's success at City Gate, a high profile residential development in the Castlefield area of Manchester, Ovenden Project Services were confident of Integritank®'s capabilities and benefits, and subsequently selected it for use on The Linx Building.

Application of the system was undertaken by Stirling Lloyd Contracts Ltd, who are one of Stirling Lloyd's network of Authorised Contractors. Stirling Lloyd's Safetrack® HW system was applied to the development's walkways and lift access areas by EBL, another of Stirling Lloyd's Authorised Contractors.

Safetrack® HW, which is also BBA Certificated, is a rapid curing, liquid applied, MMA based system comprising a tough resin binder and high PSV aggregate combined to create a hard-wearing skid resistant surface. The system's speed of application and rapid cure ensured that the areas were completed well within the given timescale, ready for the official handover of the development to Client's EPA Developments Limited at the start of May 2005.

Seamless with maximum aggregate retention, giving a zero erosion index, Safetrack® HW proved ideal for this application, providing residents with a safe, continuous, skid resistant, walkway. Furthermore the use of a neutral coloured resin and natural aggregate provided an aesthetic finish, ensuring that the walkways and access areas are in keeping with the eye catching and modern theme of the development.

With The Linx Building now complete, Stirling Lloyd have helped ensure that its new residents have an attractive and well-protected structure in which to live.
