Stirling Lloyd Restore Order At Former Convent

Stirling Lloyd, the market leaders in waterproofing and protective coating technology have supplied a package of products, which have helped ensure the successful redevelopment of a historical building in North Wales.

Built in 1860, St Clare's of Pantasaph, near Holywell is a former convent and listed building, which has been restored and transformed into a picturesque residential development consisting of apartments and townhouses.

Developer's David McLean Homes approached Stirling Lloyd in their search for a waterproofing and paving system suitable for application to the development's main terrace, which sits directly above a number of private garages. They required a waterproofing system which would be 100% effective, preventing any leakage into the area beneath with a strong bond to the substrate to help ensure a long service life. The paving system needed to be hard-wearing, aesthetic and suitable for pedestrian traffic.

Stirling Lloyd suggested using a combination of high performance products, namely the Integritank® structural waterproofing membrane and the Dreen® paving system. Integritank® is a BBA certificated, seamless, spray-applied system, based on methyl methacrylate (MMA) resins, which cures rapidly to form a remarkably tough waterproof membrane.

Dreen® is a high quality paving system specially developed for pedestrian accessed flat roofs, balconies and terraces. Lightweight yet durable, the system incorporates drainage slots to eliminate standing water and is available in a range of decorative finishes and thicknesses. The system is fully demountable and restorable, allowing easy access for maintenance and inspection of the waterproofing and drainage system, a feature that is highly beneficial for clients.

Dreen® is now an integral part of Stirling Lloyd's waterproofing package, providing customers with a comprehensive, one-stop waterproofing and paving solution.

Having witnessed the benefits of the Integritank® system on another of their development's, The Citadel in Manchester, David McLean Homes were keen to use the system in conjunction with Dreen® paving on this prestigious project. PCiS Ltd, of Washington, Tyne and Wear, who are Authorised Contractor's for both Integritank® and Dreen® were awarded the contract to apply the systems.

The systems' speed and ease of application ensured that the terrace was completed well within the given timescale, allowing the building programme to be maintained. With this impressive restoration nearing completion David McLean Homes can be confident that the development's main terrace is well protected with a safe and visually pleasing finish, sympathetic to the surrounding historic environment.
