Glasgow Fort MSCP, Scotland
Decseal delivers a durable, long lasting and visually attractive waterproofing solution.
Glasgow Fort Shopping Centre is one of Scotland’s top shopping destinations, situated just off Junction 10 of the M8, offering a large range of the UK’s most loved retail brands. With almost 100 outlets available and footfall expected to grow due to recent expansion of the shopping centre and extension of its opening hours, there was a clear need to increase parking capacity.
In order to accommodate these extra visitors a four level Multi Storey car park (MSCP) has been constructed providing a further 601 spaces, an increase in capacity of 30% and the centre now boasts a total of 2,500 parking spaces. The construction also incorporates 4 new retail units on the ground floor, with a total floor space of 11,500sq ft.
The project began in September 2015 and continued over the winter months with hand over in July 2016.

Stirling Lloyd’s Decseal and Decseal Wearing Course systems were chosen, alongside Metaset ResiFilla and Safetrack LM to accomplish the challenging task of a swift installation, while providing effective waterproofing and surfacing solutions with high, visually appealing finishes.
The Decseal systems were specified as they were the most able to meet the tight programme, due to their rapid installation and ease of detailing. The systems ability to be applied in cold temperatures was another significant benefit, as the project would take place over some winter months.
A total of 14,000m2 needed to be treated on the project. After preparation of the substrate by enclosed grit blasting the full Decseal Waterproofing and Wearing Course system was applied to the roof level and the car parks ramps. To provide extra durability and strength the system was reinforced with scrim on the ramps to further resist the forces generated by sharply turning cars. On the top deck reinforcement only took place over the centres of the Bison planks. Levels 0 -3 were treated with the Decseal Wearing Course system to provide an anti-skid and aesthetic finish.
The Decseal systems were applied swiftly to each of the decks, ensuring the programme of works stayed on schedule, avoiding disruption to the outlets visitors, achieving a lightweight and effective, long lasting waterproofing and surfacing solution.
The Decseal systems are supplied in a wide range of colours, which enabled the driving aisles, walkways and parking bays on the different floors to be colour matched. In this case bespoke colours were manufactured in line with the architect’s vision for the project, with specific colours used on each floor and matched to the paint on the walls.
Our Authorised Contractor, Aquaflame Specialist Contractors Ltd. carried out the application, working closely with Stirling Lloyd to ensure a high quality installation. The Safetrack LM line-marking system was then applied throughout the structure providing a hard wearing, cost effective solution for the demarcation of the parking bays and walkways.
Glasgow Fort MSCP was the perfect project to showcase just what the Decseal systems can deliver on a project. Not only do the systems provide a lightweight and durable long term protection solution, but they deliver clear and safe, impactful demarcation. Aquaflame’s professional approach and expertise in applying Stirling Lloyd’s products has helped ensure this valuable structure will be protected for many years to come.
