Safetrack LM Durable ensures long service life while reducing disruption to the transport network
Following the introduction of twenty-five new bus stops in Merthyr Tydfil, in the heart of South Wales, the local council were looking for an effective system for the associated line markings which could be installed by DLO operatives.
As the material had to be applied not only to asphalt but also to concrete and granite, the products Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council had previously used could not achieve suitable adhesion.

To solve this problem, Merthyr Tydfil Council turned to Stirling Lloyd’s cold plastic, advanced resin based Safetrack LM Durable system.
Not only does this achieve a high bond strength to a wide range of substrates, ensuring a prolonged service life, but also requires no specialist skills or equipment for its application, enabling the Council’s Direct Labour Organisation to install the system themselves.
The Safetrack LM Durable system is cold applied, meaning the Council’s workforce were not subjected to the health and safety risks associated with the normal “hot trades” required with traditional line markings. This combined with the materials rapid cure times meant the new bus stops could remain in use during the application of the Safetrack LM system, resulting in no disruption to the town’s bus service.
The retroreflectivity and durability of Safetrack LM will provide increased health and safety, minimising risks, with the markings being visible even in poor weather conditions for longer.
With all the lines now upgraded across the county, the material’s strong adhesion and durability will ensure a long service life enabling the Council to avoid the regular costs of reinstatement associated with thermoplastic materials and the disruption this creates to the town’s transport network.
