Product Selection

A BBA/HAPAS Type 1 approved system Safetrack® HW was selected by the client, Metropolitan Borough Council for application to over 3,000m2 of deceleration and traffic signal areas near the heavily trafficked Junction 10 of the M60 Motorway, one of the main routes into the Centre.

The system’s compatibility with the textured finish of the existing road surfaces, its speed and ease of application and the wide range of colours and aggregates available, allowing Trafford MBC to differentiate between various areas of application were instrumental in its selection. Application was undertaken by Stirling Lloyd Contracts Limited who were able to complete the work in just two visits to site.

Long Term Performance

Since the Trafford Centre opened an average of over 3 million visitors per year have made their way to the centre, regularly filling the developments 10,000 parking spaces.

This together with the frequent HGV’s making deliveries to the stores and the regular bus services to the centre, means the Safetrack® HW system has been and continues to be heavily trafficked.

Yet despite this intense level of trafficking, the system continues to perform well. Recent inspections of the area have shown that the Safetrack® HW remains in good condition and continues to provide excellent skid resistance.

Whilst Safetrack® HW may not have initially been the lowest first-option, its performance surpasses that of traditional thermoplastic systems, which if used in this location would probably have been needed to be replaced three times already.

For busy, high stressed sites, such as this, Safetrack® HW offers a very cost effective long-term solution despite high levels of intense trafficking over the years.
